Course Expectations

Mrs. Ufkin’s Art Classes

Welcome to art class!  Classes will focus on the Elements and Principles of Design through a variety of materials and processes. Lessons will include drawing, painting, mixed media and sculpture. Artists, styles, and art criticism will be discussed throughout the semester. Terminology and processes will be a key component of this class.

Materials needed for class:

Pencils, sharpeners, erasers, colored pencils, and other materials as requested throughout semester.

GRADING

  1. All assignments must be completed on or before their due date.
  2. All assignments received after their due date are, at most, ½ credit. 
  3. For every day you are absent due to an unplanned absence, you will get one day extended onto the due date for the assignment.
  4. Unfinished artwork is not accepted.
  5. If you are absent, it is your responsibility to make up all work. That includes coming and talking to me, asking for art supplies, and getting the instructions.
  6. If you project requires extra time to be completed, you have to make arrangements with me prior the due date. This is your responsibility. 
  7. Unless an assignment specifically requires copying, it will be interpreted in the same manner as plagiarism and is not acceptable. 
  8. EVERYDAY you are in this classroom; you are earning a grade for the current project you are working on. Your behavior and attitude contributes to your grade. 
  9. TAKE PRIDE IN YOUR WORK!
  10. RESPECT PEERS, SUBSTITUTES, GUESTS, YOURSELF AND YOUR TEACHERS.
  11. TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR YOUR ACTIONS, WORK AREA, AND TIME MANAGEMENT.

 

I am available before school any morning if you need extra work time.  I am at the elementary school in the afternoons.  Please make arrangements with me if you need time before or after school to work.

 CLASSROOM GUIDELINES

“3 Strikes You’re Out!”  There will be verbal warnings for the following.  The 3rdwill include detention and possible office referral.

  1. Food, drinks, candy, gum are not allowed in the art room unless the teacher specifies for a special occasion.
  2. Cell phones are not allowed at anytime. Phones should be turned off and put away. If I see or hear a phone - I take it from you. You will get it back at the end of the day the first and second offense, and it will be turned into the office the third offense.
  3. Be in the room AND IN YOUR SEAT prior to the bell! Anything less is counted as tardy.
  4. Sit at your assigned seat unless I give you OK to move.
  5. You may talk quietly with the students at your table as long as you are focused on your work. (Appropriate conversation and language only- 3 strikes you’re out!)
  6. YOU are responsible for cleaning your work area and the tools that you used.
  7. Take PRIDE in your work, be RESPECTFUL to others, and be RESPONSIBLE for yourself.
