Week 1

· Digital Video vs. Analog Video

· Students must be able to explain the difference between analog and digital video

· Proper use and care for the camera

· Students demonstrate:

· How to record with the camera

· How to use the camera as a VCR

· How to pack the camera in it’s case properly

· Each must be able to physically demonstrate each of he skills

Weeks

1-2-3

· Familiarize students with iMovie software and graphic convertor

· Students will be able to:

· Open/Save their iMovie project

· Import images and video

· Crop, Cut, & Copy Video

· Create Stills

· Import Audio

· Edit Audio

· Create Titles

· Add Transitions

· Export Video

· Export still images made from video

· Change images/graphics using Graphic Converter and then import them into iMovie

· Use the Help Menu to learn terms, shortcuts, and tips within iMovie

· Exam 1 –covers content of the first three weeks of class. Half of the exam is a demonstration of the skills and the other half is written

Week 3-4

· Project 1

· Students will demonstrate their skills of importing images, changing images in graphic converter, adding titles, transitions, and audio to create a 3-5 minute video that the students will export to a video cassette.

· Completed Video following a given theme demonstrating the skills mentioned to the left.

Week 5-6

· Rule of Thirds

· Students will read about and discuss proper video techniques following the Rule of Thirds, Proper Headroom, Lead Space, proper placement of the horizon line.

· Students complete a short video demonstrating proper and improper use of the Rule of Thirds, Headroom, Lead Space, Horizon. Proper and improper shots must be labeled with titles.

· Students will select a commercial to tape & analyze use of thirds, headroom, leadspace, horizon.

· Students will write a brief description of the techniques the observed as well as give their opinion of if here usage followed the standard rules – if they don’t can you tell what the effect is they were looking for.

· Students will bring their commercial in to share with the class and also give a statement based on their writing. Classmates will then offer their observations and opinions as well.

Week 6 through the end of the semester

· Reinforcement and advancement of skills learned the first 5 weeks

· This time is all project based. These projects vary depending upon what needs staff members have for the students to create for them and the number of students to computer ratio.

· Each video made must meet specific criteria - this is given to the students in the form of a check list.

·

·

 

· Gain knowledge on new technology and techniques by reading articles in VideoMaker Magazine.

·

· The students must write a summary to turn in and also share the information gained with the class – via a small presentation.

·
